For 25 years, Mr. Kennedy has devoted much of his practice to children's law issues in such areas as juvenile abuse, neglect and delinquency cases, adoptions, termination of parental rights cases, special education law and guardianships. Additionally, he has a general civil and criminal practice as well, with experience in child support and custody matters and the defense of traffic violations and criminal cases.
For five years, Mr. Kennedy has had a contract with Champaign County to represent indigent parents and children in appeals arising from juvenile abuse and neglect cases and cases involving termination of parental rights.
Mr. Kennedy was a member of the four-person team that established the training criteria for Illinoois guardians ad litem in abuse and neglect cases and has personally trained more than 400 attorneys and CASA volunteers to serve as GALs.
Mr. Kennedy is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Illinois College of Law and the University of Illinois School of Social Work.
